Up Brochure Rectors Organ

For the first thirty-one years in Emmanuel church there was no organ. Then, in 1900 the parish acquired Opus 125 of the great Canadian organ builders, Casavant Frères, at a cost of $1785. Its installation required the addition of an organ chamber to the church.

Opus 125

Opus 125 is a two-manual tracker-action organ with 19 stops and 14 ranks. It has a 27-note pedal board.

As installed, it had a manual bellows and the bellows signal of that period remains. In 1910, a water motor was installed to power the bellows. The water motor must have worked well, for it lasted into the 1940s before it was finally replaced with an electric motor.

On the centenary of its installation the organ was fully cleaned and restored in July 2000 at a cost of $20,000.
